The Election Commission has decided to hold biennial elections for 9
seats of the Maharashtra Legislative Council on December 18, 2009. Out
of these 8 seats belong to the Local Authorities constituency and one to
the Graduate’s constituency.
The election notification will be
issued on November 24, 2009 and the last date for submitting nominations
is December 1. Scrutiny of nominations will be done on December 2 and
the last date for withdrawal of nominations is December 4. Voting will
take place on December 18, while counting of votes will be on December
Six of the eight seats of the Local
Authorities constituency become vacant on January 1, 2010 following
retirement of MLCs – two from Mumbai and one each from Kolhapur, Dhule,
Akola-Buldhana and Nagpur. The other two vacancies are due to
resignation of Ranjit Sinh Mohite-Patil from Solapur and Yashwantrao
Gadakh from Ahmednagar.
The vacancy in the Graduate’s constituency is due to the resignation of
Pratap Sonawane of the Nashik Division.
