Curtain Raiser - 1st India Water Week


Mumbai : January 25,2012

In recognition of the vital role water plays in all aspects of our life and in assuring sustainable economic growth, the Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India is organizing the first ‘India Water Week’ in New Delhi this year.  The event will be held at the Vigyan Bhavan from April 10-14, 2012,  and provide a forum and opportunity for dialogue between policy makers, economists and scientists as well as the wider public.

 

The theme of the event is "Water, Energy and Food Security: Call for solutions".

 

As a part of the celebrations, a multi-disciplinary conference, a technology-cum-public awareness exhibition and study tours are planned.

 

   

 

The Conference

The conference will discuss in detail the concept of Integrated Water Resources Management. Experiences in river basin management and innovative approaches for sharing  benefits  of  inter-state and transnational rivers will also come up for discussion. .

 

Development and management of  urban and rural water supply and sanitation, adaption and use of innovative technologies in optimizing water usage for agriculture, as well as industry,  participatory irrigation and watershed management,  management of water resources in scarcity and flood conditions,  water conflicts - prevention and resolution mechanisms and governance, role of private players in water sector, Public Private People Partnership (PPPP) etc. are some of the other key issues that will be deliberated during the 5 day conference.

 

 

Water Expo 2012

A key feature of the - Water Week celebrations in India will be an exhibition - Water Expo 2012 covering the entire gamut of technologies and facilities available for water resources development and management.   The exhibition will provide a unique networking opportunity to the exhibitors for showcasing their products and services to the practicing water resources professionals from all countries.

 

Exhibitors from the field of irrigation, hydropower, water reclamation, water storage reservoirs, water purification, desalination plants, water management and distribution networks, water testing equipment, pumps and filters, water meters, drainage systems, pipes & fittings, effluent water treatment systems etc are participating in the  “Water Expo 2012”.

 

Study Tours

As part of India Water Week 2012, study tours to the Irrigation Research Institute of IIT Roorkee and the Central Soil Salinity Research Institute, Karnal are planned.

 

Water Management Awards.

To recognize and promote technological developments in various fields of water resources management, the Government of India will be presenting awards for outstanding contributions.  The Bhagirath Award will be presented for life-time achievement in water resources engineering. Besides, Water Efficiency Award, Young Engineer Award, Panchayat Award and Industry Award will also be presented.
