Catering monitoring cells help reduce passenger grievances

New Delhi : May 4,2012

Zonal Railways have set up a Catering Monitoring Cell at headquarters and division level, which works round the clock to redress the passenger grievances as quickly as possible. Vide the New Catering Policy 2010, the management of catering services has been shifted from Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to the Zonal Railways. Thereby the supervision and monitoring has been strengthened by the Zonal Railways by deploying Railways personnel, who check quality and hygiene and take corrective action in a time-bound manner.

]The numbers of complaints reported on catering have reduced substantially, by about 43.9 per cent since April, 2011 to March 2012 in comparison to the corresponding period of last year. Surprise checks and routine inspections are conducted by Railway officials to check the quality, quantity etc. of food items. About 31339 inspections have been carried out during April 2011 and March 2012 by Zonal Railways at all levels.
