Ministry of Minority Affairs Exceeds Physical Targets under the Free Coaching and Allied Scheme also

New Delhi : July 6,2012

The Ministry of Minority Affairs has provided free coaching to 7,830 students during the last Financial Year 2011-12 under its Free Coaching and Allied Scheme for the students from Minority Communities as against a target of 6,000. For this the Ministry provided around Rs. 16 crore to 47 coaching institutes spread over 17 States.

The Free Coaching and Allied Scheme is implemented directly by the Ministry of Minority Affairs with 100% Central assistance to the selected coaching institutes. The objective of the Scheme is to enhance skills and knowledge of students and candidates belonging to the minority communities, which are relatively disadvantaged section of society, to get employment in Government Sector/ Public Sector Undertakings, jobs in Private Sector; admission in reputed institutions in technical and professional courses at under-graduate and post-graduate levels; as also remedial coaching in such institutions to complete courses successfully. The Scheme provides for earmarking 30% of the target for girls.

For 2012-13 an enhanced allocation of Rs. 20 crore has been made for this Scheme.
