M V Ahimsa vessel joins Shipping Corporation of India fleet

The Shipping Corporation of India has received the delivery of  the 120 ton Bollard pull anchor handling, towing and supply (AHTS) vessel from the Cochin Shipyard Ltd.  This is the third of the AHTS vessels being bought by the Shipping Corporation of India from the Cochin Shipyard Ltd.

 

The new vessel M V SCI Ahimsa has a gross tonnage of 2,067 tonnes and deadweight of 2,005 tonnes. The vessel has been classed with IRS, equipped with Dynamic Positioning-I (DP-I) system, Reverse Osmosis Plant, Firefighting (FIFI) equipment and UKOOA (C) compliance and has been built to comply with the latest and most stringent international regulations. This vessel will be able to offer the essential support and services for growth of the Indian Offshore industry.

 

In the offshore sector, SCI presently has a fleet of 15 vessels of which 9 vessels were acquired during 1980s. These vessels have been dedicatedly serving the oil exploration and production sector in India for over 25 years.

 

To promote Indian Shipbuilding industry, SCI continues ordering all its offshore vessels with Indian Shipyards. Besides the Cochin Shipyard Ltd, it has also placed orders in the past with Bharati Shipyard Ltd and ABG Shipyard Ltd.
