US Aviation Regulator expresses satisfaction with DGCA on aviation safety

New Delhi: September 7,2012

The Federal Aviation Administration, FAA of US, has expressed complete satisfaction over the functioning of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, DGCA, in various regulatory areas relating to safety in India.

The development follows a meeting between a DGCA team and FAA officials in which the former presented the actual facts and figures to the latter.

On the basis of media reports, FAA had expressed concern on the current civil aviation scenario in the country and cast doubt on the effectiveness of the DGCA’s oversight of the aviation industry.

After the presentation and discussion between the two sides, FAA was convinced that there has been no compromise on DGCA’s functions of continuous surveillance and supervision of the industry.

FAA has categorically stated that there was no need to begin consultation process on conducting a fresh International Aviation Saftey Assessments of the DGCA by them. FAA has also reiterated that India would continue to enjoy the privilege of Category one country
