Mr. K.H. Muniyappa Minister of State
(Independent Charge) for Micro, Small and Enterprises (MSME) reviewed
the activities and programme of KVIC, NSIC, Coir Board and MSMEat Mumbai
today. The Minister also visited the Khadi Fest 2012 at KVIC,
Headquarters, Vile Parle, and interacted with Chairman and CEO, IVIC.
While Interacting with the press, the
Minister informed that the sector is estimated to employ about six crore
people through 2.61 crore enterprises. It contributes to 45 per cent of
the manufacturing of the country and 40 per cent to the total exports of
the country. There are over 6000 products which are produced by the
sector. A number of schemes are targeted at benefiting the enterprises
of the sector are implemented by the O/o Development Commissioner (MSME).
The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) provides support to
the Khadi and Village Industries Sector and runs the major scheme of the
Ministry called, Prime Ministers’ Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP)
and during the 2011-12, 55135 units were assisted under this scheme.
