Dr Shashi Tharoor took
charge as Minister of State in the Ministry of Human Resource
Development, in New Delhi today. This is his second stint in the Council
of Ministers. Dr Tharoor, first elected to Lok Sabha in 2009, was
Minister of State, External Affairs from in 2009-2010.
Interacting with the press after assuming office, the Minister stressed
that education is crucial in a country like India which has the world’s
largest youth population. Dr Tharoor said education and opportunities
emerging from it can persuade the youth to desist from going the way of
Naxalites, Maoists and others. He said the quality of education is also
a priority area for him.
