Harish Rawat Inaugurates the Ministry of Water Resources Pavilion at IITF-2012

New Delhi: November 15,2012

Save water is a National Objective in which we should all participate. With this comment Shri Harish Rawat, Union Water Resources Minister inaugurated the Ministry of Water Resources pavilion in Hall No.7E in the 32nd Edition of India International Trade Fair being organized by ITPO in Pragati maida, New Delhi yesterday late evening. He was accompanied by Shri Pradeep Tamta, M.P.Lok Sabha from Almora and Senior Officers of the Ministry on this occasion.


The pavilion carries different exhibitory materials viz. physical models of various projects/activities, translites, banners, posters etc. of MoWR’s programmes & policies. The theme of the pavilion for the year is:

                                             “WATER FOR FOOD SECURITY”
                                                       “खाद्य सुरक्षा हेतु जल”


On this occasion a five minute live skit on the importance of water conservation was also presented before the gathering. Speaking on the occasion Shri Rawat termed ground water as a reserve storage that should be retained at every cost. He also stressed upon the need for evolving cost effective as well as innovative ways for the saving of ground water and also called for measures to check water pollution across the country. The minister said In view of increasing scarcity of water resources on one hand and increasing population on the other, the conservation and judicious use of water for food security has assumed great importance. Water plays significant role in increase in food grain production.

Various organizations under Ministry of Water Resources viz. Central Water Commission (CWC), Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), National Water Development Agency (NWDA), Central soil and Materials Research Station (CSMRS), National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), Central Water & Power Research Station (CWPRS), and Public Sector undertakings viz. Water and Power Consultancy Services (I) Ltd. (WAPCOS) and National Projects Construction Corporation Limited (NPCC) are exhibiting their models and other exhibitory materials to showcase their activities and achievements.


The central attraction of the pavilion is a large size (18’X12’) working model of Ken-Betwa Link Project, first Inter-Linking of Rivers Project for which tripartite MoU was signed on 25.08.2005 by the then Chief Ministers of M.P. and U.P. and Union Minister for Water Resources in presence of Prime Minister of India.


The pavilion is also exhibiting through interactive models and other means to spread awareness and education among visitors via message matching with the themes. The various schemes of MoWR and their achievements are also being displayed in the CWC stall. The models and exhibitory materials are being explained to the visitors by resource persons of relevant fields..
