Mumbai: November 22,2012

The new media including YouTube, Facebook and Twitter have been put to good use to communicate with followers at the on going 43rd International Film Festival of India, IFFI 2012.

Even as the national television network Doordarshan aired live the grandeur of the opening ceremony of the Festival on November 20, the entire programme was streamed live on the YouTube of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting.  This has been followed by by uploading short footages about various events including inauguration of Indian Panorama, Films Division’s exhibition on 100 Years of Indian Cinema, theatrical reading of Dadasaheb Phalke’s life at the inauguration of 100 Years of Indian Cinema package, press conferences of inaugural film by Ang Lee – ‘Life of Pi’, interaction with its cast and crew, including Tabu and Irrfan Khan, video chat with noted South Korean director Kim Ki Duk, media interaction of Lifetime Achievement Award winner – Krzystoff Zanussi among others.

“The objective of launching the channel was to reach out to the young population of the country, sensitizing them about the Government’s policies and programmes. At the same time, the channel has provided a window to disseminate information on key issues and events regularly in an effective manner” said a senior I & B official.

The  I&B Ministry’s YouTube initiative is just over two months old, and has since been gaining viewership gradually. The uploaded programmes include Live streaming of events, news capsules of two to three minutes duration, campaign spots, short films and documentaries, classical music, inspirational speeches, etc. The response has been overwhelming. Till date the channel has received about 25000 video views and has approximately 295 subscribers.
