Health Services should reach the rural masses: President


Mumbai: December 29,2012

The 12th plan envisages a target of 2.5% of GDP for the health sector.  Efforts have to be put in to  actualise this..  The rural population should get the benefits  of  Health Services likewise  social health should be   ensured by  social and economic development. The President said this while inaugurating the Ashwin Rural Medical College at  Kumbhari near Solapur today. The Presidnent also said along with health, education and  human resource development  should be undertaken by private sector, NGOs and government agencies.

 

Speaking on the occasion the Union Health Minister, Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad said, UPA government has  provided good health care to the people in rural areas.  He said seven years back NRHM was launched by the central government and  Rs. 90,000  crores provided to the   states under this scheme.  He also said measures have also been undertaken to reduce the  shortage of doctors in the country.       

 

The Governor of Maharashtra Shri K. Shankaranarayan, Union Health Minister, Ghuam Nabi Azad, Union Social Justice & Empowerment Minister, Ms. Kumar Selja, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Prithviraj Chavna were also present on the occasion.
