BIS celebrates World Standards Day 2017

 


Mumbai: October 16,2017

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) on the occasion of World Standards Day, organised a Seminar today at, Mumbai on 14th October, 2017.  The seminar was inaugurated by Dr K.M. Soni, C.E.S – Chief Engineer (Western Zone – 1), CPWD.

The World Standards Day’s  theme for this year is “Standards make cities Smarter” which is chosen collectively by International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), International Electro technical Commission (IEC) and International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

 

Shri B V S N Rao, Deputy Director General (Western Region) in his welcome address emphasized the role of standards in accomplishing Smart Cities Mission instituted by Government of India. He mentioned that that every city faces different challenges to develop into a smart city and standards plays a pivotal role in simplifying this task by providing tailor made solutions.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Soni, C.E.S – Chief Engineer (Western Zone – 1), CPWD.

 

 Stressed that standards formulated for smart cities can significantly aid in sustainable and inclusive development of smart cities. He also felt the immediate need to implement the standards formulated for smart cities to augment development of hundred smart cities in the country, as per the framework laid down by Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of India.   

 

The seminar was also graced by eminent speakers like Shri Vishwajit Joshi, Lead – Smart & Sustainable Technologies Marketing, KPIT, Pune  and Shri Rayapore Rammohan, Head – nergy Management Business, CMS Computers Ltd, Mumbai contributed their valued insights during the  seminar.

 

Around 120 representatives from Industry, Government Organizations, and Consumer Organizations participated in the Seminar.
